It’s been nearly two decades since Marcus Fenix and his squad first stormed onto the scene, and now the original Gears of War is back this time with a fresh coat of paint. Microsoft is bringing Gears of War: Reloaded, a full remaster of the 2006 Xbox 360 classic, not only to the Xbox Series X|S and PC but also to the PS5. Yes, you read that right PlayStation fans finally get to experience the start of one of Xbox’s most iconic franchises.
When Can You Play Gears of War
For those itching to dive in, the good news is that unlock times are global and simultaneous. That means no more switching your console location to New Zealand just to play a few hours earlier. As Microsoft confirmed,
“Thankfully, Microsoft has made it so that the game unlocks at the same time for everyone.”
Preload is already live across all platforms, though you’ll need a decent chunk of storage space: 63 GB on PS5, 68 GB on Xbox Series X|S, and 70 GB on PC (via Steam).

Multiplayer and the Future of Gears
If you’re planning to squad up, Reloaded supports both co-op and competitive multiplayer. However, don’t expect the series’ fan-favorite Horde mode just yet. It wasn’t introduced until Gears of War 2.
Interestingly, Microsoft has been sending free codes to select Xbox players as a thank-you for their loyalty to the franchise. And with Gears of War: E-Day already in development, this remaster might just be a way to reignite hype for what’s coming next.
