Apple’s Big Reveal: iOS 26 Launch Nears with Exciting New Features
Apple unveiled iOS 26 back in June during its WWDC event teasing a major design overhaul that’s caught a lot of attention. While the official release is still a couple of months away expected this fall, those eager to try it early won’t have to wait much longer. The first public beta is just around the corner, and signs are pointing to a release this week.
The Usual Rollout With a Slight Delay
Following Apple’s usual rollout strategy, iOS 26 first arrived as a developer beta. The public beta, originally planned for July, is a bit behind schedule this time. But there’s a good reason for that.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman,
“All indications are that iOS 26 should go into the public beta phase this coming week. This typically happens by the middle of July, so the software is a bit later than usual. Given that iOS 26 is such a significant design overhaul, it makes sense that Apple would want to take a little extra time to get things right.”
A More Stable Public Beta, Based on Dev Beta 4
Rather than basing the public beta on the third developer release which is usually the case Apple seems to be going with the more stable fourth developer beta. Gurman adds,
“It seems likely that this public beta will match up with the fourth developer beta version.”
That approach actually makes sense. With iOS 26’s standout Liquid Glass design getting subtle refinements along the way, Apple is likely trying to give public testers a version that’s closer to the final look and feel. The fourth developer beta just dropped at 10 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday, July 22another strong signal that the public beta is about to follow.
When Will the Public Beta Launch?
As for the timing, it’s tight. With only a few days left in July, Apple is almost certain to launch the public beta this week. Most predictions point to either July 23 or 24.
One report speculates:
“I believe it will be released the day after the fourth developer beta, so if that lands on Monday July 21 the public beta will be Tuesday, July 22, one report speculates. Gurman backs that up suggesting Wednesday, July 23 is “also possible.”
Leaks and Accidental Releases Point to Imminence
Another supporting detail comes from MacRumors, where Joe Rossignol noted that
“an anonymous leaker with a proven track record today shared alleged build numbers for the fourth developer betas of iOS 26 and more.”
That leak turned out to be accurate; the developer beta was released right on cue further reinforcing the public beta’s imminent launch.
It’s also likely we’ll see other software updates going live alongside iOS 26 public beta: iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS 26, and tvOS 26. Interestingly, macOS 26’s public beta accidentally appeared briefly on July 21 before Apple pulled it down. The build number matched the dev beta, confirming once again that these public betas are in sync with the fourth developer releases.
Looking Ahead to the Final Release
So, when will the final version arrive? All signs still point to September, in line with Apple’s annual iPhone launch event.
Gurman asks,
Does that mean the final software will ultimately ship later than expected, Probably not since the developer versions remain on track.”
