ChatGPT user base nears 700 million as OpenAI drives global AI adoption.
OpenAI’s flagship AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is showing no signs of slowing down. According to the company, the app is on pace to hit 700 million weekly active users, a stunning leap that cements its place as one of the most widely used consumer apps in the world.
Nick Turley, VP at OpenAI and head of the ChatGPT app, shared the milestone in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), revealing the app had previously hit 500 million weekly users by the end of March. Even more impressive? That figure represents a 4x increase in users since last year.
Nick Turley wrote.
“Every day, people and teams are learning, creating, and solving harder problems. Big week ahead. Grateful to the team for making ChatGPT more useful and delivering on our mission so everyone can benefit from AI,”
What’s Driving the Boom?
One major growth engine has been the introduction of upgraded image-generation features powered by GPT-4. Launched in March, the tool lets users create high-quality visuals using text prompts. Just weeks after the launch, OpenAI’s COO Brad Lightcap reported that over 130 million users had already created a staggering 700 million images.
And it’s not just individual users, business adoption is ramping up fast. As of last week, OpenAI now has 5 million paying business users, up from 3 million just in June, Lightcap confirmed.
ChatGPT Usage Rivals the Internet’s Biggest Platforms
With nearly 700 million people interacting with ChatGPT every week and usage metrics rivaling social media giants OpenAI is firmly leading the consumer AI revolution. Whether you’re using it for work, learning, or creative projects, it’s clear: ChatGPT isn’t just a trend, it’s becoming a daily habit for hundreds of millions around the globe.
