Elon Musk reveals X’s plan to introduce ads within Grok’s AI responses, aiming to enhance user experience and support ad business.
Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), recently spoke to advertisers and shared some big plans for the platform. According to the Financial Times, Musk said X will soon start showing ads inside the replies generated by its AI chatbot, Grok. This move aims to help X’s advertising business, which has been struggling since former CEO Linda Yaccarino left.
“Our focus thus far has just been on making Grok the smartest, most accurate AI in the world and I think we’ve largely succeeded in that,”
Musk said during the live talk.
“So we’ll turn our attention to how we pay for those expensive GPUs.By adding ads to Grok’s responses, X hopes to cover the high costs of running powerful AI hardware.”
How Ads Will Work and xAI’s Role
Musk explained how these ads will be shown:
“If a user’s trying to solve a problem by asking Grok, then advertising the specific solution would be ideal at that point.”
This means that when someone asks Grok for help, relevant ads related to their question could appear in the AI’s suggestions.
Besides this, Musk plans to use technology from his AI startup, xAI, to improve ad targeting on X. xAI bought X earlier this year for $45 billion, showing Musk’s goal to combine AI innovation with social media.
This new approach is part of Musk’s effort to bring more revenue to X while keeping Grok smart and helpful. By embedding ads in AI conversations, X hopes to create a more useful experience for users and a better opportunity for advertisers.
With Grok already known as a smart AI, this ad strategy might change how brands reach people using AI chatbots. For Musk and X, the future is about making AI smarter and sustainable for business.
This strategy marks a new chapter for AI-driven advertising, blending innovation with user experience and business growth.
