GIF keyboard missing iPhone fix – Add it back to Messages now!
In today’s world of quick chats and emojis, sometimes nothing beats a good GIF. You are joking with a friend or reacting to something hilarious, a GIF often says more than words. But the fun can come to a halt if your GIF keyboard suddenly vanishes.
Apple includes a built-in GIF search feature in the Messages app, known as #images. You can find it by tapping the Plus (+) icon next to the text box in iMessage and scrolling through the options. If you’re trying to use a third-party keyboard like Tenor’s popular GIF Keyboard, it’s usually available in that same menu too.
The confusion starts when you expect to find your GIF keyboard by tapping the globe icon under your keyboard only to notice it’s gone. In many cases, people just see the smiley face (emoji) icon instead of the globe. That’s usually a sign that your GIF keyboard has been turned off.
But don’t worry, getting it back is easier than you think.
Why a GIF Keyboard Is More Than Just a Fun Add-O
The words sometimes fail to do the trick from a point of expression, when rather short, busy exclamations such as I am excited! or That’s hilarious! don’t quite do it mucking around with. And that is where a GIF comes in. You can use a single moving picture or moving animation to capture the tone or mood or emotion that plain text just cannot.
Sending a virtual eye-roll, or a dancing cat, or that iconic slow clap is more than simply communicating; it is entertainingly, visually, instantaneously expressed.
The love affair with GIF keyboards for speedily hunting down mood responses in timely deadlines nefarious or simply wanting to make someone smile, completes the human touch with heartfelt extracts from moments more alive and less robotic.
Did Apple take away the GIF Keyboard?
“Unless you’ve accidentally uninstalled a third-party GIF Keyboard, Apple hasn’t enabled you from sending GIFs.”
There are really two ways of using third-party GIF keyboards in Messages; either through the + menu or by switching keyboards by using the globe icon. So if the globe icon is missing and there is only the emoji one, your GIF keyboard is just not activated right now.
It can still be accessed though disabled, through the expand + menu that has been around since iOS 10 but surely enhanced over the years. iOS 17 bundled with many features, including GIFs, Stickers, etc., into this single space, thus making it neater but hard to find things if you’re used to the old layout.
If you don’t want to go through the + menu every time, but would rather have it at the tip of your finger from the globe icon, you can easily turn it on again.
How To Add the GIF Keyboard Back
If you have grown tired of tapping through all those menus and want fast access to your GIFs, here is how you can get the GIF Keyboard back into your keyboard switcher: Go into the App Store and confirm that your favorite GIF Keyboard (like Tenor) is installed.
- Open up the Settings app, and tap on General.
- From there, go to Keyboard, and tap on Keyboards to add a new keyboard.
- Your GIF Keyboard should be listed under the Third-Party Keyboards section, so just tap to add it.
- Now, after it is added, select it from your list of keyboards and make sure Allow Full Access is turned on.
After that, you can cycle through your keyboards, including your GIF Keyboard by just tapping the globe icon on the bottom left of your keyboard. Tap to switch, or hold to bring up the full list.
Your iPhone keyboard does a lot more than just letters and emojis. It can change the way you type, change languages, or even help you text one-handed. Learning to customize it-or just learning where to find things like your GIF Keyboard-can help make texting faster, easier, and way more enjoyable.
