Brace yourself Samsung is cooking up something huge. The Galaxy Z Flip 7, expected to drop in July 2025, is not just another stylish foldable, it’s shaping up to be a serious tech beast. Why? Because it’s rumored to launch with Samsung’s first-ever 3nm chip, the powerhouse known as the Exynos 2500.
But here’s the real plot twist: this chip might turn your phone into a satellite-connected lifeline. No mobile network? No problem. If what we’re hearing is true, emergency satellite communication could be built right into your pocket.
Satellite Support? Yes, You Read That Right.
A fresh press release from Skylo, a company at the center of space-based connectivity, just dropped a major hint. It confirms that the Exynos 5400 5G modem embedded in the Exynos 2500 supports NB-IoT NTN meaning it can talk to low-earth orbit satellites.
Translation: the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may allow users to send emergency messages via satellite when there’s zero cell coverage. That’s not just cool, it’s survival-level innovation.
Who’s Skylo and Why Should You Care?
Skylo Technologies, headquartered in Mountain View, California, is a global disruptor in Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) tech. They specialize in letting smartphones and IoT devices connect directly to satellites, no towers required. Think of them as the bridge that links your phone to space.
And Samsung isn’t Skylo’s only big-name partner. Their client list includes LG Electronics, China Mobile, Tecno, OPPO, and more.
But this partnership with Samsung is on another level. According to Hui Won Je, VP of Modem Development Team at Samsung Electronics:
“Samsung’s partnership with Skylo is built upon 3GPP NTN standards to unlock connectivity everywhere. Through our collaboration on the Samsung Exynos Modem 5400 and the Exynos 2500 mobile processor, mainstream devices worldwide will now have the underlying technology to connect to satellites wherever cellular networks are unavailable, ushering in a new era of ubiquitous connectivity.”
It’s not just about phones, either. Skylo is also teaming up with HARMAN Automotive to bring satellite features to cars. The satellite revolution? It’s already begun.
The Exynos 2500
The Exynos 2500 is Samsung’s first chip built on the 3nm process, succeeding the Exynos 2400 used in the Galaxy S24 series. It promises next-level efficiency, performance boosts, and now, potentially space-based communication.
But there’s a twist: a leaked Geekbench 6 score shows the Galaxy Z Flip 7 scoring 2,012 (single-core) and 7,563 (multi-core). Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 inside the Galaxy Z Flip 6 pulled off 2,251 and 7,131, respectively.
So yes, Exynos 2500 trails slightly in single-core, but beats it in multi-core. Also, keep in mind: early benchmark units are rarely final optimizations before launch could change the whole game.
But Will You Actually Get Satellite Features?
That’s the million-dollar question. The chip can do it. The modem can do it. But will Samsung enable it out of the box? That depends on business strategy, regional regulations, and maybe even marketing plans. So, while the hardware is prepped for space, the real-world feature might vary depending on where you buy it.
Exynos Making a Comeback in Flagships?
Originally, the Exynos 2500 was planned to debut inside the Galaxy S25 series. But Samsung reportedly ran into chip yield issues, forcing them to abandon that plan and switch to the Snapdragon 8 Elite a decision that cost both time and money.
Now, rumors suggest a new plan: the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will run Snapdragon, while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could be powered by Exynos 2500 in certain markets, possibly even the United States.
If true, this could signal Exynos’s bold return to Samsung’s premium line and a step toward hardware diversity in the upcoming Galaxy S26.
Satellite Connectivity
No matter which chip Samsung ends up using, one thing is becoming clear: satellite features are here to stay. The Galaxy S25 series already supports it through Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Satellite, and Samsung won’t want to fall behind.
