Norrsken Invest powering sustainable global ventures

Swedish Norrsken Invests-348m In AI For Good Initiative

Sweden’s Norrsken Foundation is putting purpose before profit and it’s doing it in a big way. The foundation has committed €300 million ($348 million) to support European startups using artificial intelligence for social good.

From fighting climate change to improving healthcare, food systems, education, and societal wellbeing, this fund will focus on innovations that actually matter, not just boost ad clicks or automate emails.

Purpose Over Profit in the AI Race

The Norrsken Foundation, launched in 2016 by Klarna founder Niklas Adalberth, now oversees multiple venture and investment funds with assets exceeding $1 billion. But this latest step isn’t just about growing portfolios, it’s about redirecting AI’s power to where the world needs it most.

Agate Freimane, General Partner at Norrsken VC Said,

“AI is not just another productivity boost, it’s a real chance to fix what truly matters,”

That message cuts through the noise of an AI industry increasingly obsessed with business efficiency. With the exception of companies like Google DeepMind, the majority of AI efforts today are still focused on enterprise tools sales, customer support, marketing automation.

“Artificial intelligence is the most powerful tool humanity has ever created,” Freimane continued. Yet, so far we are mainly using it to optimize clicks and automate emails.”

It’s a sobering reminder of where we stand and how much more is possible.

Meanwhile, venture capital-backed startups raised over $80 billion in Q1 of 2025, marking a 30% jump from the previous quarter. But the bulk of that money is flowing into software that scales businesses, not solutions that tackle climate risk, hunger, or public health.

This is where Norrsken breaks away from the trend. With this new fund, they’re not just investing in companies they’re investing in the future we actually want to live in.
